Are bikinis acceptable on Myanmar's beaches or is a one-piece swimsuit (for females ;-))the best and easiest way not to cause any offence?

Myanmar is conservative country. You may get away with it at Ngapali but I dont think its good idea at other beaches. Locals will wear t shirts and shorts at least. 1 piece would be safer and cause less offence.

I wore a bikini at Setse and Maungmagan without any problems. On those beaches it wasn't difficult to walk down the beach a bit and find a quiet spot to sunbathe away from the crowd, which is concentrated around the beach restaurants.

Thanks for the replies and advice. Will keep the bikinis for hotel pools.

OK at Ngapali Beach, where they are the norm-but only on the beach.

Is there really any difference wearing a bikini in a hotel swimming pool and on the beach? You will encounter locals both places.
