Does anyone know anything about this place? It has a website and describes itself as a new luxury hotel in Bagan, but I can't seem to find out anything about it.

Pretty sure it's the new resort in the middle of the temple area, close to the "observation tower" owned by Tay Za...

Modern additions are another of Bagan's threats. At the eastern end of the site, the government commissioned Burmese entrepreneur Tay Za to erect a viewing tower. The result is architecturally out of place not just because of its smooth, cylindrical form but because of its Iraqi ziggurat-style external staircase. Tay Za, the chairman of Air Bagan, is reputedly close to Senior General Than Shwe—so close, in fact, that, according to the BBC, he's licensed to trade arms with Russia (though the tycoon denies it). After Tay Za completed the tower, he was granted adjacent land, on which he built Bagan's most luxurious hotel, the Aureum Palace, which stands to benefit from the start-up, this year, of Air Bagan flights between Bagan and Siem Reap, the gateway to Angkor Wat.

What Mose did not say is that the guy who owns this hotel is a REALLY bad fellow. There are many grey areas with regard to traveling to Myanmar. Patronizing this guy's place is not one of them. I'm not being judgmental - I have given him my money before. Never again.
Try the Thiripitsaya or Tharabar Gate. They're both very nice. You won't have to look at that awful tower (it's a total eyesore) and you won't be giving all of your money to a bad guy.
Again, everything is a matter of degrees. Do the best you can for the Myanmar people and also for yourselves, but always try to keep your eyes open.
