Hello all feloow travelers

We are a family of four (two boys age 15 and 11) who are planning to travel in laos next year. We have been before, but not in the mittle or the south.
We would like to do The Loop - but wonder if it would be possible to hire a car and drive our self??? Any info about that. Otherwise we have to do it on tree bikes, and i'm not so happy about my oldest on his own bike……. Would much prefer a car - and self drive.

Best Regards
Gitte

Hi all. My wife and I are stopping over in Laos on our way to Vietnam in March 2015. We are flying into Vientiane and exiting at Luang Prubang 10 days later. WE thought we would catch the bus to LP, stopping in VV For a couple of days on the way to breakup the long bus journey. My wife and I probably would qualify as grey nomads and would like to know of acc in VV that is a bit away from the backpacker crowd but not remote as we love the markets and good local food. Thanks.

Hello, anyone knows if there is a campground around Luang Prabang? Any information about camping in Laos in general? We have our own gear, we are just looking for a spot to hang up our hammock.

Thanks!

Hello,

I would like to know that do buses in Laos run normally during the New Year in April? Or is the number of connections, for instance, reduced due to the celebrations?

I'm thinking about the route between Luang Prabang and Vientiane. If anybody knows, information will be much appreciated! Thanks.

I was planning on traveling in Laos like in the good old days without attempting reservations anywhere except perhaps Luang Prabang.
Will I be sleeping on the floor or can one just walk up and find a room.
Our route is from Huay Xai up around North then Nong Kiau. LP and out.

We're planning to cross the Laos/Vietnam border at Sop Hun / Tay Trang, we have a Lao guide booked who will drop us at the Lao border checkpoint and a Vietnamese guide meeting us at the Vietnamese check point - when I look on the map the two checkpoints seem to be several km apart, as we will have no transport of our own I'm confused how we'll get between the checkpoints. Has anyone had similar issue - where should I get agreement from guides to drop us off / meet us? Thanks.

I have been considering doing the Loop from Tha Khaek. But it sounds a little borig doing it alone so I hope someone would like to join me on this motor cycle trip. Probably as a 2 night/3 day trip

I'm a Danish guy, speak good English & German, and passable French if I have to. Mid 50s, experienced traveler. I like a good story (not neccessarily true...) and a few beers at night.

My phone in Vietnam is 016957240 and I'll check here as well.

Cheers, Jesper

Hi there!
I'm just back from my trip to Luang Prabang where I stayed 5 days before heading to Thailand on a slowboat. I may be able to answer some questions about the destination.
In Luang Prabang I stayed at "Manichan Guesthouse" and I can highly recommend the place! It's perfectly located in a quiet street just a few steps away from the day market, food street and night market. Very clean, great breakfast (included) and over all, they make you feel like family.
To reach Thailand by the Mekong…

Hi,I'm wondering if I have time for this jaunt to northern Laos or if I'm trying to squeeze in too much: I'm flying to Vientiane on April 18, 2015, arriving in the evening. I'd like to go immediately to Luang Prabang the next day, and then go directly to the north (to Phongsali District) for some trekking. Probably basing in Muang Sing. Because I've read that public transportation can be iffy, sometimes delayed or canceled, I want to hold off spending a few days in Luang Prabang (which I…
