Can anyone recommend a mid range hotel in Luang Prabang? We will be a party of 3 couples, plus one single for part of the time. None of the hotels that are recommended in Lonely Planet had vacancies. We will arrive in Luang Prabang on Feb 4. One couple will stay there until the 8th, two will leave for one night to stay at the elephant village and then return, and the single will arrive a day or two after everyone else. All will leave on the 8th. I don't want a hostel or a fancy resort. Just a…

I am hoping for decent Internet to at least IM over Skype from places like Luang Namtha and Nong Khai.
Are there Internet cafes with Skype or should I carry it on a USB stick?

TIA,

Lew

Hi All,

Lucky for me, my birthday is on April 14th, Songkran time! I'd like to know where we should be on our travels on this day. Should we stay in Luang Prabang, where we'll be on the preceding days, or head on down to Vang Vieng, our next destination?

Thanks for your help!

Hi everyone, I am contemplating going to Laos to spend the rest of my time in SE Asia...my return flight is on the 26th of January. There is no particular place I am looking to go, so if anyone anywhere in the country can help, please respond. Price is the main factor. Looking for a cheap monthly rental (150 USD or less), I don't need a/c, I don't need lots of space or anything nice. The main thing I am looking for is a small house that is maybe far away from others as I will be working on music…

Hi Laos experts,

we (with my wife at the age of mid 30s) will spend 2,5 days in Luang Prabang (end of January). It is a short time, but we would like to make the most of it.
I made a lot of research, I have some plans, but also a lot of questions.

Day0: will land at 6pm, not much to do, just relax.

Day1: plan to take a tuk-tuk to Kuang Si waterfall in the morning (so not a tour), and visit Living Land rice farm on the afternoon. Questions:
1.) As it is not the rainy season, is the waterfall…

I will be traveling to Laos Jan 31, 2015 with my husband, daughter, son-in-law, and his parents. We will fly into Vientiane, spend a couple of nights and then head to Luang Probang. We will travel by bus to an elephant camp and return to Luang Probang. Our next stop will be Savannakhet Province. The final stop is likely to be Four Thousand Islands. We will travel back to Vientiane to fly home to the US. We would prefer to fly from place to place within Laos. Does anyone know if it is less…

Below is a tentative itinerary for our trip to Laos in 2015. We would be in the country for around 19 days and plan to arrive from California in mid-November, although we could go anytime between 1 November and 15 December.

My wife and I are in our late 50s. We have previously traveled throughout Vietnam and Cambodia, so I feel like we have seen plenty of temples, ruins, etc. For Laos, we would like to focus on trekking and biking. From reading LP and this forum, it seems that traveling around…

Hi - I'll be traveling from Luang Prabang to Don Khong overland in late February/early March. For that leg of the journey, though, I'll only have four days. How best to do it? I thought about overnight to Vientiane, a couple of days in Vientiane, and then overland to Pakse and then onward to Don Khong, but I'd like to break it down if possible, and if there was any way of avoiding overnight buses, I'd like that as well. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I apologize for asking this question again. I can only find instructions for traveling from Udon T to Laos and not the reverse. I have traveled from Nong Khai to Udon T airport using some NK travel agency but that was years ago.

What is the easiest way to get from Ventiane to the Udon Thani airport? I read in a 2011 post there is a bus from the Ventiane bus station. Is that still an option? I could cross the bridge and try to find the travel agency I uses in years past.

Any advice…
