Laos

I am planning a trip over Xmas and New Year. The only pre-requisites are that:

Its a bit of a splurge and we want to stay in mid-range/slightly upmarket accommodation (In the past I've been on more of a budget)
We need about 5-6 days on a quietish beach.
We want to stay in Luang prabang for New Year.

How does this sound?

Saturday 15th December - Manchester to BKK; Ethiad arrives BKK 07:40 Sunday
Sunday 16th December - BKK to Krabi: Air Asia Depart BKK 10:40 arrive Krabi 12:00
Monday 17th December to…

i looked at a map. distance of chiangmai to LUang Prabang and Vientiene is relatively the same. is there a bus in CM that goues directly to vientiene?
my group plans to go to Laos from myamnmar and since there are no direct flights from yangoon to vientiene ( i believe) we have to stop at chiang mai. please help us. wanted experienced travellers advice needed. thanks

I am planning on traveling from Chiang Mai to Vang Vieng this August.
I know there are flights to Vientiane or Luang Prabang but we are traveling on a budget and i would rahter not take a plane.

Can anyone give me details on how to take the slowboat?

Is it a full trip or do u have to take individual busses to the border and take th boat then?
Prices?
How long does it really take?

Is bus an alternative?

jst wondering if anyone knows how long is the bus trip from the Vietnamese boarder crossing Nong Haet to Phonsavan, and from Phonsavan to Vang Vieng?

hi i am trying to figure out which would be the best loop to do. we want to rent motorcicles. i am trying to figure out the streets on the map on my LP but i am little bit confused. the loop would be this (if possible): from pakse to salavan, sekong attapeu and then back to pakse. but that's the "tricky" part. do we had back via pakseng or on road18 and up to pakse again? which would be the nicest roundtrip? how many days would you calculate? thanks!

Has anyone used this accomodation booking site for reservations in Laos? They seem quite kosher, prompt in their replies etc.

I feel a bit mean questioning their integrity, but just wondered of others experiences.

Can anyone recommend a nice guest house in Luang Prabang with double rooms around the $10 mark? Preferably near to the centre and restaurants etc.

Also, are there any ATMs there now and do they dispense dollars or kip?

need assistance from anyone who has stayed in either the Thavonsouk bungalows or the Villa Nam Song in Vang Vieng.

Me and the lady will be in Vang Vieng for 5 nights and have narrowed our accomodation choice down to these 2....as many good and bad opinions as possible on either will be much appreciated to help with this choice !!

I know you can take the slow boat from Chiang Khong to Louang Phabang, and also up the Nam Ou, but can you also take a slow boat from Louang Phabang down to Vientiane? Any estimates in time? many thanks,
