Laos

I'd like to fly from Luang Prabang to Siem Reap sometime mid to late December, but don't want to commit to a particular date right now. Will it be possible to book a flight with only a week or so advance?

i have 15 days to spend in laos in july. will be coming directly from new york.
i am an experienced backpacker, my 21 year old has been all over with me. we need some suggestions on where to go ,we like to trek, visit markets, not rush around like maniacs. thought about the north. will it be raining all of the time. who has cheapest flight tickets. thanks

the old question but maybe something has changed....

-do they still prefer dollars? or has the euro already caught up with them?
-are there ATM's in e.g. Luang Nam Tha, LP and Vientiane?
-do ho(s)tels only accept local Kips against the rate that day or do they accept dollars and/or euros?

Has anyone tried the overnight bus from LP to Vientianne? Where to catch the bus? What's the departure time and how much does it costs? Or should I take the early am VIP Bus instead?

Being a fiercely independent traveller I decided to find a hill tribe village on www.fallingrain.com and go there. I chose a village that way because I wanted somewhere that no one had been to.
Please note that I have done this in a number of countries and have met nothing but hospitality and kindness. Well, not in this village.
When I got there I was surrounded by aggressive men all yelling in their language that wasn’t even Laotian! I could pick up a sense of hatred in the tone in their voices…

These are some of the more interesting things I have seen but not tried. Has anyone tried them – what did you think? Any other risqué foods that deserve a mention?
Also a few times in my trip in Laos I have seen people with forest animals tied up on the side of the road in remote places (obviously illegal). A few times, different drivers have stopped and bought these animals (and birds). The ugliest of all of these was a huge overgrown mole (about 40cm long) that had huge teeth, huge front claws…

I am currently in Siem Riep in Cambodia and thinking about going to Laos afterwards by land. Guesthouses here offer to do the visa (I asked a couple of them) and it takes 3 days for about 50 dollars for my nationality. Does anybody know how long does it take to do the visa in Phnomh Penh (and how much does it cost for a European)? I wouldn't like to stay too much in PP as I don't have too much time, so I'm thinking about either going by land to Laos from Siem Reap or flying directly to Pakse…

Ok have heard all about the hanoi hell bus.....is it really that bad. theres four of us trying to get from luang prabang to hanoi next week. cant seem to find flights so i guess were gona bus it. cud anyone tell me where the bus goes from, what days it goes and the cost. any other transport ideas wud be great....the randomer the better!!!!!

heading for Laos next week. trying to find a cool spot to stay in luang prabang and another in vang viend. anywhere cheap, clean and central with common area / place 2 relax n meet other back packers. there s4of us altogether so dorms or double rooms are rooms are cool. also what good adventure stuff is there to do in both places besides tubbing (sounds nuts cant wait). any tips wud be great

We'll be traveling from Nam Tha to LP in a couple weeks. Instead of taking the bus the entire way, I thouhgt it might be nice to do a portion of it on the Nam Ou river. Where could I find a reliable palce on the Nam Ou to catha a ride south ? I was thinking Muang Khua, though that might not be easily accessible by bus from LNT. Any thoughts or criticisms would be appreciated.
