Untill a couple of days ago, we were thinkig of doing new years eve in Luang Prabang.
However ....
A couple of days ago we read in the lonely planet that there's a curfew (11.30 pm) in the whole country.
Now where not sure if celebrating new years over there is a good plan.

does anyone have any experience with new years eve or partying in Luang Prabang?

hi guys, is it any faster to go from luang prabang to huay xai or the other way round. really want to do the trip but dont want to sit on my butt for two 10 hour days. has any one done the fast boat trip, is it as dangerous as they say. seems like an airfare from luang prabang to chiang mai is approx $160us including taxes, is it really that expensive or is it cheaper to obtain the airfair in laos rather than booking it online from australia.
any advise would be GOOD! we will be travelling…
I will be traveling to Laos and Cambodia with my mom this January. We will spend 4 days in Siem Reap and the will have 12 days. We have to fly back to USA from Bangkok. I thought of spending 10 days in Laos and 1 day at Ayutthaya in Thailand befor flying back. For the 10 days in Laos I thought maybe fly first to Luang Prabang, spend 3 days there, then a day in Vang Vieng, a couple of days in Vientiane, the visit Kong Lo cave and then take the bus to Pakse and do the Bolevan Plateau or the 4000…

I will be entering Loas from North Thailand with the aim of travelling south through to Cambodia and returning to the north in about 1 months time. I want to hire a motorbike in Loas and take it over the Cambodian border.
Has anyone done this with a hire bike?

What is the best way to get from Luang Prabang to Muong Noi and what is the price? We have time so I am of the mind, we break the trip at Nong Khiow? So, LP by minivan, overnight in NK and catch a boat up as early as possible. Price for van and boat and where to book these please.
On return, we are going all the way to LP. Can we buy some combo ticket in the MN village (boat/mv)?

I am planning to cross into Laos from Thailand around the 3rd or 4th January....and then to leave out of Vientiene on the 12th or 13th to fly to vietnam......
so, here are my questions...
1. Is this enough time to see/get across the country. I know entering from thailand puts you quite aways away from the captial, and I am hoping to see Luang Prabang and go tubing in vang vieng too....if it is not enough time to get there, are there other airports in Laos that fly to hanoi?

A couple of weeks ago I posted requesting information on Route 23 ( Earlier Thread ) and received a fair amount of feedback. I ended up walking from Muang Phin to Toumlan, and thought I'd post some feedback on travel in that part of Laos, as well as on the walk itself. It's a very enjoyable, if rather adventurous, multi-day hike.

Could anybody please clarify when the Wat Phu Champasak festival is being held in 2013?
Sites all over the internet claim it is the 4th - 6th February, yet according to the lunar calendar for Laos this is nowhere near a full moon, and in fact the full moon is right near the end of the month, around the 26th February.
Also, Magha Puja festival is being held around the 25th February and the two would usually coincide.
Would it be wise to assume the 4th - 6th Feb is some bad information which…
I see the Loas airlines flight from Vientianne to Bangkok is rather expensive. Is it better to book a flight from a travel agent in Laos or on line?
