Now, I have reasonable enough standards, and don't expect too much. But the best hostel I can find that's decently reviewed on Hostelworld is Khammany Inn ($6 a night per person, but huge room of other beds).

Considering I'm travelling with my girlfriend, is there a place that could offer a better price, whilst still being recommended?

Permission to call me a tight arse, if that's what I'm being!

Hi folks,

I'm still doing heaps of planning & research into the various trips which my wife & I have on our "bucket-list". The first trip we intend on undertaking is to Laos & Cambodia with the plan being to fly in to Luang Prabang and work our way south and fly out from Phnom Penh.

In researching the Laos part of the trip, I'm struggling to work out if we would be "kicking ourselves" later on if we did not go further north from Luang Prabang instead of preferring to head south-east down to…

Hey Folks,

I was just wondering about the restrictions of the visa upon arrival (probably by land, maybe by air.... if that matters).
My passport will expire on August 13th 2013. They say one needs at least 6 months validity of their passport, and at least a couple blank pages. I will arrive around Feb 7 or 8 this year.
Would/ could they possibly refuse my entry based on the amount of validity on my passport?

Many thanks for any input!

Nucker

We're considering to try and hire a car with driver to travel from Luang Prabang to Hanoi instead of taking the bus through Vinh, and hope to cross the border in Tay Trang.

Would that be possible at all? Are cars from Laos allowed to cross the border to Vietnam? Would any company be willing to offer this? Where should we go to ask? And what price can we expect to pay?

Thanks in advance,

Tim.

Something weird on the Laos branch/forum - the last replied dates on many are showing as 15 January 2013, but the actual last replied date is (for example) 8 August 2012. These date of the OP on these threads are August 2012.

There's no problem that can't be ignored if we really put our minds to it.

Hi there! I wish to visit Laos by this year for a 6D5N trip or even longer. I just have a bit wonder here, is it Mid September a suitable time to visit Laos, as I checked, it's a rainy season. Is it really rain so heavily or all day rain?

Is Don Khong worth a visit? I'm in Laos for only two weeks in total and am not really a 'beach' person by friends have raved about it. Worth 2 days? Less? More?

Hi,

I am planning on travelling a few days in Southern Laos in late April-early May. Looking for some advice on timings etc. I am thinking of doing the following:

Hoi an to Kon Tum on mbike
Kon Tum to Attapeau on bus - 1 night Attapeau
Attapeau to Tad Lo by bus (or does anyone know if I can hire a mbike with guide to do this?). How long does it take by bus and by mbike?
2 nights Tad Lo - anyone recommend a 1 day trek through villages?
Tad Lo to Pakse by bus - want to stop at Tat Fan. Can you…
