hey guys

are there any problems in directly buying the bus tickets at the station from vientiane to vien viang, and from vien viang to luang prabang in February?

i learnt that february is a peak season, do i need to book the tickets in advance? any websites or travel agents? or there are a lot of travel agents at those cities that i can book one day ahead?

and just in case that there are no seats for VIP bus, are there any other options? where can book the minivan?

cheers,
alexis

Hey guys,

Thinking of flying with Lao Airline from Luang Prabang to Vientiane. Check the official page and find it is flying with AT7.
Anyone flew this route before? How was it? Is it safe flying with Lao Airline?

Cheers,
Alexis

Hi!

I am planing to get to Laos from Hanoi at the beg of Feb.

I havent decide yet whether I prefer to see north or south Laos.
I have about 10 days to spend in the country and then I want to get back to Vietnam and visit the area around Hoi An.
I believe than in 10 days it is not possible to see both north and south Laos.
What do you recommend? Head north (eg.Nong Kiaw) or south (eg. Si phan don)?
Generally I prefer places that are not touristic and are more laid back.

Any suggestions on what…

Last August we spent 4 weeks away. 3 nights in Bangkok 25 nights in Laos (travelling from Huay Xai in north to island in South) + 1 night in Bangkok = 29 nights. In total we spent 3970 Euros (excluding flights BKK/Spain + insurance). This covered everything: all accommodation (cheap to mid-range), all transport (buses, boats, tuktuks etc), a couple of tours, food (mostly street markets or local restaurants), drinks, snacks, ATM commissions some cheap presents/clothes/souvenirs. That…

If you're coming to Vientiane soon, I suggest booking a room. I'm seeing a lot of folks with big backpacks wandering around bopping back and forth between full guesthouses...

We are flying into Luang Prabang from Bankok and plan to go overland through Laos and into Cambodia. Our passports are both OK in terms of being in date and lots of blank pages but we have no proof of how we are going to leave Laos, although we have return flights booked to UK from Phnom Penh.

Will we be OK to get visas on arrival in Laos and is it easy to cross into Cambodia overland from Laos and again get visas on arrival?

I have been told by a friend that you can get from Laos to Phnom…

The only way to describe this is the 'bus ride from hell'. The bus was suppose to pick us up at 2:00 AM, we finally boarded @ 3:00 AM when we received our introduction to 'sleeping buses' from the woman who was running the show.

Sleeping buses for the most part in SE Asia are meant for Asians, which means very small narrow people. They are built so your feet go under the person in front of you, who is being held up by a hollow wedge. They are very uncomfortable but that isn't the worst part.

With but (apparently) less than a month to go - I can't seem to find a definitive answer to the simple question:

What are the dates of the 2013 Laos Elephant Festival???

I've searched high and low, and there seems to be differing answers. Some say February 17-19, others the 14-16.

I'm skeptical of either 'cuz I've read that the festival always runs Friday, Sat. Sun (which makes sense), but the 17th is a SUNDAY in 2013 (not to mention, apparently the 17-19 were the dates of the festival in…

Hi,

Does anyone know of a guide or someone that may be able to organise a motorbike & guide in Attapeau? I want to go from Attapeau to Tad Lo and would prefer by bike so I can stop off along the way. I am travelling overland from Vietnam through to Pakse and want to avoid needing to double back around on a loop if possible.

Thanks
