Sorry guys but I didn't make it, the wife and I ended up sick with some type of virus. We did make it to the boat races for a couple of hours, it was pretty cool. I have never seen so many people jammed into one street in my life. The streets near the Mekong were shut down to traffic and their were vending booths down the sides, there were also carnival games and childrens rides.
We were standing on the riverbank next to one of the villagers tents when their boat went by neck and neck with the boat it was racing, I counted fifty-five young men paddling with exact unison, the noise made by the villagers was awesome! Beating on drums and clanging cymbals, they cheered their boat on to victory. We didn't feel well enough to hang out on the hot riverbank long enough to see who won the entire competition, but seeing the women race and being there with the Ban HaiPhong villagers was an experience I wouldn't want to have missed!
