Villian Chaser, or for anyone who can tell me, I have just seen the question from the woman in Canada about Laos Visa, and Villian Chaser you answered that Laos now gives a 30 day visa upon entry for $30. Is this only at the airport, or will they give me a 30 day visa at a land border crossing? I will be in Hanoi about mid-November and want to go to Laos from there. Is it still possible to cross the Na Maew/Nam Xoi border, and if not, what is your suggestion--another land border or fly from Hanoi. I would prefer to cross over land at Na Maew/Nam Xoi if its possible, and especially if they are now giving 30 days for $30. I have an American passport if that makes a difference.
Thanks for any help, Steffe

I think Americans have to pay $35 now. Visa on arrival is not just at airport, but I don't know specifics about Na Maew.
All land borders now offer the 1mth visa except Cambodia to Laos where you need a visa in advance, not sure about dien bien phuu though as it has only recently opened up to foreigners

Prices depend on nationality, but are usually around 30-35$; 30 days at overland borders indeed with exception of Cambo as mentioned by MM.
For Dien Bien Phu, read here.

Yes steffe, 30 day VOA is officially available at these land border posts.
However these posts are somewhat remote and I have been turned back at Nam Can 2 years ago as the person who did VOA was not on duty that day. Had to return to Vinh and enter Lao via Cau Treo.
So if I was you I'd get a visa beforehand from the Lao Embassy in Hanoi. It's a long way back if for any reason VOA is not available when you arrive.
