Hi,

Is it possible to get from Vang Vieng to Ban Na Hin in one day by public transport?

I'm thinking the earliest bus from Vang Vieng to Vientiane, and then straight onto any bus south to Vieng Kham/ Thang Beng, then local transport to Ben Na Hin. Staying the night there, and then Kong Lor cave the next day, staying somewhere near the cave that night and then getting from the cave somewhere further south (Thakhet?) the next day.

Any info/ advice much appreciated.

Thanks

G

Going in the opposite direction last November, it took almost a whole day to get to Kong Lor area going north from Thakek. Buses are slow and the road in from Na Hin was under construction for the first half of the trip (this may be better now??) and then went on a bumpy route across the padis for the balance ie very slow (and dusty). Going to and through the cave took a few hours, but well worth it, not least for the lovely people we met. We stayed at Sala Hin Boun (more expensive but pretty good) and there is much less expensive accommodation in the village, or at Sala Kong Lor closer to the cave. Not sure about the trip from the north to Na Hin. Three days sounds a bit rushed. A lovely area, you'll enjoy it. Good luck!

Your schedule sounds doable to me if you leave VV early morning. At the worst you would get stuck at Vieng Kham junction (guesthouse there) but then still could do the trip to Na Hin and connect to Konglor that day (and go through the cave).
Konglor to Thakek to prob in one day.

However I would plan at least one extra day for it if time allows, the area is quite scenic and worth to stay longer.
