ok it seems that you can get visa on arrival at the border. even if i found conflicting answers all around the web. but ok. an other question: which are the opening hours and days? we probably will arrive on sunday. any problems?

I last used this crossing in 2006 and VoA were available then. Crossing is open all day long and Sundays although they may charge you an extra $1...

Yes VoA available. There is a direct bus from Ubon to Pakse and to use this one you need a Visa in advance as far as I know (to keep the stop at border short). But if you go with other local transport you get your VoA at border.
Yep, Sunday and other holiday border is open, but you psay thsat 1$ 'overtime' fee...
