What about trekking possibilities around Luang Prabang?
I’m interested in nice natural sceneries and ethnic minorities…
Do I need to get till Luang Nam Thai and Muang Sing up in the North of Laos or is it possible to organise daily trips to spectacular places from Luang Prabang?

Thanks everybody!

There are some great outfits on the main drag in LPB, Tiger Trails and Green Discovery, the later has locations all over Laos.

You can do overnights, day trips, far afield, that include treks, elephant rides, waterfalls, kayaking, traditional villages, and rafting and other outdoor activity. They will list the next day excursion on chalkboards on the sidewalk, with the activity, length of time and price.

The LP Laos guidebook has more details for each area, but you base yourself in LPB and arrange it there, or get the low down on where you headed.

I planned a overnight, trek, waterfall, villages, kayak back but it cancelled due to rain and 4 people backed out, and they called my GH and said to stop by for my deposit, I went next door and went with another outfit, its was great, just me and a couple from Germany on their honeymoon, and out guide, we encountered rain in the morning, mist and muddy trail in portions, all of its was informative and comfortable, we saw in the waterfalls and the river, had a few beers here and there, and the nature and scenery is great, the village life is highpoint.

Get a mountain bike too and head across Mekong on a boat for few bucks, start in morning and have then get you around 5pm, bike in both directions to many villages, boat builders, paper makers, wats and great food...

Those people who travel further away from the towns and tourist trails put in more time and effort but get a greater rewards...

I did an overnight trek from Muang Ngoi Nuea. 4 hours by road gets you to Nong Khiaw and Muang Ngoi is another hour up the river. You may be able to arrange something in Nong Khiaw or even go for a walk alonhg the highway, there are Hmong villages all the way.
