Thanks for your elaboration, Emjay, indeed, maybe my conclusions were a bit hurried and I explicitly want to take back the 'disgusting' and apologize for it.
It occurred to me too late, that you are still in the preparation-phase of your trip and parts of my anger should have been directed towards the people on this thread who have in fact bought the snake-liquor and dispose it on their shelves as a cool souvenir. Again: Good on ya for checking out the pro and cons beforehand!
What the Tiger Temple is concerned: I have been there myself - years ago and compared my feelings while there and afterwards with your blog (the only thing I read from your hand about the 'Temple'). I did notice, that your feelings were ambigous, still you did recommend a visit (if being in Kantch already). I reckon myself, that by now, there's just too much evidence out in the open, that it is too late to let people make up their own minds (especially since that means another ridiculous 300 TBHs in the hands of these 'monks'). Of course, I didn't know about your stance on TripAdvisor and indeed, it changes a lot. Again, my apologies if I jumped to conclusions that went too far. However, I still think that you should change your blog. You might want to include an inside-report of someone who has worked there as a volunteer, look it up in post #24 on this thread.
No hard feelings, I hope you'll enjoy your trip!
All the best,
Axel
PS: #30, mozzies, fair enough - thanks for the reminder! ;-)

Apology accepted Axel! I appreciate you seeing my point of view! The only reason I originally thought it was cool was that I have a close friend who is terrified of snakes and I thought it might be a 'funny' gift. The OP was spur of the moment! Not so funny now! My next comment about not getting into a debate was that through further reading I knew the argument could get heated and I had NOTHING to argue about, cause the moral issue IS something I am concerned about! :-)

While I have researched Thailand extensively (due to the last trip) Laos is new to me, and I am slowly getting there! ;-)

I have read the inside report you refer to on TT, in fact I tried to post the link and the review on TA several times only to have several nasty emails from TA advising me I was breaking their posting rules and it was too political. I was informed my membership would be removed if I continued to post on the matter... even though I tried to present an opinion based on my own experience. I constantly argue against any form of animal 'abuse' on TA and most of it falls on deaf ears....

I will definitely post an update to my blog....

Thanks for the apology, I appreciate it!

Hi, Reet - once more... ;-)

...I guess, something went wrong with editing your blog, or the link you provided didn't work, at least, I still see the old version when clicking on it...

Anyway, thanks for accepting my apology and for doing the right thing!

All the best! Axel

Hey Axel,

The edited part is just an add on at the end of the blog... I didnt want to change the whole blog due to it being my 'travel diary' as such!

Hope it suffices!
