Hello
I have a problem with smoke in my bedroom. (medical)
Is it easy to find a room in Vientiane or Luang Prababng where they have a non smoking policy?
Thanks

How much are you willing to spend for a room?

Unlike most western cigarettes, most cigs that are smoked there do not have the same deep musty and clingly smell. I never found the rooms musty from smoke, and my family never had a problem with cig-stink. (Musty from mold, perhaps...)

That being said, some are more sensitive, and/or allergic than others. Certainly in my style of budget travel, non-smoking rooms were only available next to that honey-moon suite with the hot-water jacuzzi jets....

I also don't like the ciggy smell either. I've stayed in many guesthouses in both Vientiane and Luang Prabang and never have problem with non-smoking room. Just ask for one when you check-in. Thus, some "non-smoking room" allows smoke on a deck only with evident of ashtray.

I never had any problem with a clean and smoke free room or GH, but to be safe, just avoid anywhere the French tourist are, they smoke like a pack a day...hahaha

Well it is not so very bad. But when they smoke a pack a day in a room I will have an astma attack.
So I will have to be a bit careful.
Thanks a lot

There are even guesthouses and hotels in Luang Prabang which forbid smoking in rooms. In fact, this past spring, there was a big push in Luang Prabang to make it a 'smoke free' city. I've forgotten whether it was somsai or phakphon who posted on this but when I was in LP at that time, they had a huge event with free caps, t-shirts, etc. publicizing this.

Actually, you've also got to be careful of getting rooms after a Chinese tour group goes thru because they smoke quite a bit.

Also, I wouldn't recommend visiting Luang Prabang in late Feb. or March because due to LP being in a valley, the smoke from swidden agriculture builds up and the town gets quite hazy and if you are asthmatic or highly sensitive to smoke, it can get quite bad.
