Has anyone tried the overnight bus from LP to Vientianne? Where to catch the bus? What's the departure time and how much does it costs? Or should I take the early am VIP Bus instead?
Only 1 week to spend in Laos, please help. Thanks!

I do not know about the overnight bus. I do know the Minivans that go between LP and Vientianne are wonderful and the scenery is also wonderful - so you might want to go by day to see the scenery.

Yep, some of the most spectacular mountain- scenery in Laos can be seen between LP and Vientiane. You'd miss it in the overnight bus...

this must be very new- was not there till very recent. Of ocurse (why ask??) take the bus at the busstation and arrive in good time. ANYtuktuk driver will bring you.
but the scenerey is not that dramatic if you know alps or scandinavia- ket alone tibet. you had better ask what tpye of bus it is and if it allows any sleep.
google for lao-bus-time-table.blogspot, it has lists for most northern main busstops

Yes, a couple times. Actually the through busses from other origins that stop off in Luang Prabang for dinner. I've seen lots of scenery in Laos and preffer not to look from a bus window, or a road of any sort actually. Anyway they make good time and aren't too crowded, arrive in Vientiane in the early hours, might have to wait for guest houses to opnen. Check at Southern bus station, they usually start rolling in around 6pm. The early morning bus is like all the others except gets to Vientiane ealier in the day. Leaves bus station around 6:30 am as I rememer. I like the early AM bus best.
