Has anyone recently obtained a Burma visa in laos? If so how long does it take and is there a same day express service available as I have read there is in Bangkok.

Would prefer not to get visa in bangkok as I have been there too many times. However, before I came away I read that same day visas are issued in Bangkok but in other countries they take 2 weeks. Two weeks is way too long to hang about waiting - 2 days might be okay. If I have to wait would rather wait a bit in Laos than in Thailand as Laos will be a new country for me. Would be very grateful for any info on this matter.

Thanks,

Mick

I went to the Myanmar embassy in Ventiane this morning (Thursday 14 Feb 2013).

(i) I arrived about 11.30 am, there was no-one else there apart from the embassy staff, if anything they seemed rather surprised to see me.

(ii) they said I could collect a tourist visa on Monday for $20 or tomorrow (i.e. Friday) for $30, collecting it at 3pm, which is pretty well a 24 hour turnaround given that they shut for lunch at noon. I opted for the $30 dollar service although I did note that the receipt they gave me was for $20! Payment was in cash (US dollars)

(iii) the whole process took about 5 minutes, including the time spent by me filling in two forms. They needed three passport photos.

Obviously, I haven't got the visa yet, as I collect tomorrow, but so far nothing could have been be more trouble-free. The embassy is easy to find, being just off a main road in an area full of various other embassies about a mile out of town southwards. I walked from downtown, as I needed some exercise, and it took me about 25 minutes, would be 5 minutes at most in a tuk-tuk
