Hi all,

I'm doing a little research on boat travel between Jinghong in Xishuanbana/China to either Thailand (Chiang Saen) or any destination on the Mekong in Laos (or vice versa, that is up the Mekong to Jinghong). Boat travel that is NOT the "Mekong Prince", a cruise liner for high-prized organized tours between Jinghong and Chiang Saen and on to Luang Prabang.

Cargo boats or any other low-profile means of transportation are fine with the excepting noisy speedboats ...

Anybody out there with knowledge to share?

Thanks a lot

I did the cargo boat thing a couple years ago. However this has been outlawed by the Chinese government last year and now tourists must use the "tourist" boat.
I suggest you use the Search function at the top of this page. Search for "jinghong" and then click on the Asia-Thailand branch, which currently gives 14 results. Read through the relevant posts and you'll pick up much of the needed information.
