OP as per #1 if you are using doxy then yes, you should be able to get them at the BKK airport (or in LP)

if you want Malarone, then you can only get them at home or by scrip at a few BKK hospitals.

if Doxy be sure to check the expiry date. doxy is poisonous if expired.

As the dry season is underway so there is increasingly less risk of Malaria in northern Laos. Use a repellent spray etc. Luang Prabang itself will likely not have a wide selection of prophylaxis.
The branch of Boots at Bangkok airport should sell some types of anti-malarial pills over the counter which would only be available on prescription in the west.

YES it,is the dry season; small chances for malaria BUT I had a bad case of dengue fever in Luang Prabang in December 2007--leg paralyzed for 10 days, in spite of never wearing shorts in the tropics...Malaria meds have side effects so it's your call . Happy Trails!!

Unfortunately no pills will prevent dengue.

Why don't you just go with a good mosquito repellent? Those are also available in boots in Bangkok as spray or cream and they work well.
In my opinion it is better than to put these kind of questionable chemicals in your body. They might make you feel sick and more.
I live in SEA for two years almost and never caught any of the two. Just to say.
