Hi guys,
Was wondering if someone can give me some info. I am trying to work out the cheapest way from Laos into Vietnam. One of the ways I had planned was to do the 24 hour bus trip from Vientiane to Hanoi. However, I will then have to double back from Luang Prabang. So my question is whats the cheapest way to get from Luang Prbang to Hanoi? I know I can fly but I can't seem to get any prices up on the lao Airlines website. Is there a bus??

Hi I did this trip by bus but the other way around, from Hanoi to Luang Prabang. You should be able to get a bus from Luang Prabang to Udomxai then another bus onto Muang Khua and cross over at the Tay Trang Border crossing. The bus from Muang Khua should take you through to Dien Bien Phu in Vietnam.

There is no direct bus from LP to Hanoi, you must travel independently by local bus and the whole trip would take 3-4 days. The bus from DBP to Hanoi would take a day. Find the Lao Airlines / Vietnam Airlines agents in LP and check out timetable and airfare, I think one way flight LP - Hanoi would cost approx US$120-150.

1.go to FAQ in top, which lists the bordercrossings lao-VNam. the northern near DienBienPhu is now also open for farang.
2.as above rightly points out, NO direct bus that way, partially NO bus at all=more costly taxi, Plus some overnites needed, so the grand total wont differ miuch from the Lpr-VTE-HAN total busfare. unless you consider that no extra pay, as it gives more vies/places to visit.
