I don't like myself writing this, but it's been three weeks now I do not get any news from this guy.

He is making a great solo trip in Asia and used to write to me once in a while (on FB usually), mainly because I've traveled there as well and would enjoy very much his news. He is the kind of guy that travels with no camera and no guide book, so sometimes he would just post a Google link of pictures from the place he was in.

To cut short, he entered Laos from Thailand, reached Luang Prabang with the slow boat during Pi Mai and that was the last time I heard of him (April 14). He got a China visa while in Thailand. His name is Indrit and should be the only Albanian traveler in the area :-)

I don't think he moved that fast to China, he advocates the slow pace travel and, who would skip Laos that fast?!
I've checked the news from Laos about fatalities and didn't find anything. He may be very well traveling through hill tribes with no internet access, but what if lying in some hospital bed because of Dengue or malaria, or a road accident (a lot happened during Pi Mai celebrations)?

If anyone has some clue please share. Sorry for taking your time guys, this should be a space to share tips for traveling, not worries from who is staying home, but I couldn't stop thinking about this during the last week.

Three weeks is a long time to not hear of any news, but three weeks when travelling and having an enjoyable time goes so quickly. I'm sure he will come across an internet café soon and will have some spare time or inclination and will communicate and make contact.
Let us know the outcome and also the reason why he left it so long to make contact.

i dont know you, and i dont know your friend, but i also think that you should not worry
i have a very recent example - i l sent an email to a friend in germany at the begining of april, she was not around at that time, i left a week later to south africa and didnt get her response to my mail untill i got back just a week ago. so both of us where a bit worried for a couple of weeks for nothing. and we both were fine during that time.

also, having been to laos several times, i know that wi-fi connections are not always solid. and sometimes when on the road and travelling, without wanting to worry friends and family members, you just dont think of connecting to them for a while.

OK, I'm waiting, what else can I do?

If more time passes and still no news, any idea where on internet I can ask around? expats forums etc of this kind?

I really hope he's just passing through some 'meditation' mood and getting fully immersed in Lao life, only problem is that throughout March until mid April he was writing every 3-4 days.

Anyway, the above question (good forum of people living in Laos) is a practical one, so please share, it can be useful for future reference as well

It could be many reasons:

  1. No internet connect or unreliable internet connection
  2. Merely check-out and don’t want to facebook
  3. In China and go a new Chinese girlfriend

Good news!
A common friend heard from him Apr 17th and he mentioned he was heading to China. So all should be OK, just no FB and controlled internet in China I suppose. I just never thought one would skip Laos that fast.
Calling off the search
Thanks to all and I beg your pardon
