Heading to Laos between Xmas and New Year, probably be between Vientiane, VV and LP. Do I need to book accomodation ahead? After new yearí'm heading down south. I suspect accomodation won't be a problem then.

That very much depends on where you stay and where you are comfortable staying. In my experience you do not need to book for low end accommodation but popular guest houses do fill up early in the day. There are always places available, 12:00 is the best time to scoop a room. I have never managed to not get a place (gotta love that double neg). All the places you mention have an abundance of rooms.

Going slightly up the food chain it may be a good idea to book, the better places usually book out over this period.

Down south will be no problem.

Booking ahead over xmas, espcaily nye is a good idea if you want a particular guest house or a good one as those go first.

certainly in vangvieng there is never a shortage of accom but quality accom can be the issuse.

As for LangPra Bang, I have heard good rooms going for silly money.

After NYE for the last 2 years the first 2 weeks of jan have been quiet so your right, accom shouldn't be a problem.

I would book in Laung Prabang/Vang Vieng....when I was there, all the better places were sold out.
