We are flying into Luang Prabang from Bankok and plan to go overland through Laos and into Cambodia. Our passports are both OK in terms of being in date and lots of blank pages but we have no proof of how we are going to leave Laos, although we have return flights booked to UK from Phnom Penh.

Will we be OK to get visas on arrival in Laos and is it easy to cross into Cambodia overland from Laos and again get visas on arrival?

I have been told by a friend that you can get from Laos to Phnom Penh by river. Is that right?

Any help and advice greatly appreciated as this is our first trip to this part of the world.

Thank you in advance!

Sorry! I meant that we are planning to go overland from Laos to Siem Reap and then the boat trip to Phnom Penh.

Proof of onward travel isn't required for Laos or Cambodia. Lao visa fee for you should be $35USD, and $20USD for Cambodia, more if you try to pay in other than U$D. The boat trip from SR to PP really only works in the wet season, and even then it gets mixed reviews, long/hot/wind burn, and not all that safe.
Oh, remember to bring visa photos.
