Hi,
Can someone give me advice about the Lao Spirit Resort? I will be traveling to Laos in January with my husband - we are in our early 30's and wouldn't mind doing a trek/rafting/kayaking out of Luang Prabang. Is this a good option or a bit of an "older" crowd? Can someone recommend other options from where to do a trek/rafting/kayaking close to Luang Prabang?

Cheers.

The Lao Spirit Resort is about 20Ks south of Luang Prabang [as your headed towards Xieng Neun]. It's located up a steep hill and has great views. I've talked to both younger and more middle aged travellers who've visited and they seem to like it. BothAll lao Service, Tiger Trails and the resort use the same landing, from what I saw. We went rafting in mid Feb. and the waterflow was fine but I would recommend kayaking the stretch because you're going to return to LP a lot faster which means that you can make a lot more stops or linger longer.

Well, as I stayed there I think I know what to say:

I joined the Mahout Experience there and living with Elephants and also had a look in all the other rooms, well...houses I must say!

open air shower, huge balcony with view into mountains, very private atmosphere and the Elephants right opposite of the Lodge. No better place for me if you take the chance to stay a bit out of town. Activities can be done there (I did a Trekking, Elephant riding, Elephant washing) Prices are not made for the normal backpacker but as I come for pleisure and work that is what I needed...and I will come back!

10 minutes upstream there is the Tad Sae waterfall which invites for swims and great forest.

Tiger Trail is actually running their projects there and is in cooperation with the Lodge, as the Elephant Project uses the Resort and Lodge as accomodation for their visitors.

Other commpanies, that's what the guide told me, were not able to enter the area as it is a private road that belongs to the lodge!

Maybe there are a few reviews on it on travelfish.org

Pictures though you will find on the web - and I think I got the right link below!!

P.S.: Room rates seem to change in low season!

my conclusion: A good choice if you want to be out of town and close to nature, service could be better but therefore you are out of the crowd, the Resort has 5 Bungalows and seperate Appertments which is called Elephant Lodge (I had a night there!!)

Lao Spirit Resort - Luang Prabang - Something New at last!!
