Sounds like he knows how to travel. Getting harder and harder to find a place where you can plausibly claim that there isn't an internet connection.

That really is the truth ... Having said that i did my last trip last year travelling with a Blackberry and found it incredibly useful for E-mailing hotels , booking flights and Trains ect , finding reviews for Hotels and Restaurants ...

I can't envision me travelling without one now !! Quite sad in way ,as when i first started travelling thirty years or so ago , the only way of contact with the friends and folks back home was either a complicated and often unreliable not too mention expensive International Telephone call or picking up mail from the local Post office ....
Now with smartphones Skype , Facebook and a whole other plethora of social media , i quite miss waiting in anticipation for some mail and that once every three months or so phone call back to the UK to catch up on what is going on back there , you we're really off the grid back then ...
Happy that your wayward boyfriend finally managed to get in contact with you , maybe next time you could save the anguish and hopefully go along too ?
