My boyfriend has been travelling SE Asia for six weeks now. He has been in Laos for two weeks.

He has made daily contact with me.

On Saturday morning he boarded a bus, planning to go further south.

This was the last time I recieved a text from him.

It is now Monday night, and he hasn't read any of my messages or mails. This is really out of character. I know the wifi would not be amazing, but I am panicing.

How likely is it he is in danger? When should I contact his family?

I'd give it a week.

I agree, give it a week.
Honestly. don't worry, it's laos, not afghanistan, and there are so many westerners travelling here safely all the time. I'm sure he'll be in contact as soon as he can.

i do agree with above posters, dont panic. your boyfriend probably doesnt have wifi acess. laos is really a very very very relaxed place, and a very safe place to travel.

Or, he lost/broke his phone. Laos is one of the safest places in SEA. It's too soon to panic. Let us know when he turns up.

As per above posters, I'm sure he is safe and well. When he makes contact with you, let us know, and let us know his excuse he gives you.

One lucky boyfriend where his lady is looking after. Probably no connection to the net or lost of phone.

He's contacted me.

Was staying in a rural area with zero internet.

So happy! Thanks for your help

Hi,

Expect more of this if he is there for any length of time. Communication can be/is difficult there. Even where you got connection it at times is so poor it may as well be zero. It is Laos after all. Thanks for letting us know the outcome.

Sounds like he knows how to travel. Getting harder and harder to find a place where you can plausibly claim that there isn't an internet connection.
