Does anyone know if there are cheap flights from Hanoi to Luang Prabang or travellor buses that make the trip with perhaps a stopover along the way? I'm considering leaving late February and have only about 10 days before back to work and study.

It's been more than ten years since I've visited Vietnam and about 5 years since last I visited Luang Prabang. Looking forward to revisiting.

Dont forget you need a Multi Entry/Exit Visa for VN.

I dont think there is a flight direct. Bus is a haul.

Maybe fly into BKK> then fly to LPB> bus to Hanoi>fly out of fly back to BKK cheap.

Vietnam Airlines flies direct at least once a day (sometimes code sharing with Lao). The flights are not cheap or outrageously expensive, but there are no other airlines flying that route that I know of.

Flight is about $150-170. Both Lao Airlines and Vietnam Airlines make the route.

All buses make a hundred stops. You can get off anywhere you like and then catch the same-route bus the next day at, guess what, about the same time.

One can bus from Hanoi to Vinh, and then Vinh to Xam Neua (about 12 hours), the XN to LP (10-14 hours). Takes 2 days of all day travel (assuming nothing brakes down...), meaning you've looked at gorgeous and fun setting all through a bus window all the while listening to the local sitting next to you york into a plastic bag...

Flight is the way if time is the issue. On the other hand, I'd take a week in Xam Neua (and area) over a week over LP anytime.
