Hey Guys.
Ok have heard all about the hanoi hell bus.....is it really that bad. theres four of us trying to get from luang prabang to hanoi next week. cant seem to find flights so i guess were gona bus it. cud anyone tell me where the bus goes from, what days it goes and the cost. any other transport ideas wud be great....the randomer the better!!!!!

Why not get the boat up to Muang Khua then cross over to Dien Bien Phu, get to Sapa, then Lao Cai and finally a comfortable sleeper to Hanoi? Much more interesting IMO. If you do get that 24- 36h bus, post back please ;)

If you think the Vientiane-Hanoi bus is hell, the LP-Sapa one is just as bad. Similar situation, except on worse roads. We bused it from Udom Xai to Muang Khua, spent the night there, and then bused it to Dien Bien Phu (warning: the guards at the DBP border are bored, and will take their sweet time with the checking. Allow a good 2 hours just to get through the border here). We then flew from DBP to Hanoi. It cost about AUD60 but was well worth it. It took half an hour, as opposed to the 10-15 hours the bus would have taken.
