I called Laos Airlines (I wonder if it is the official one) in Paris and I was told that all flights from Vientiane to Siem Rep are well booked already 6 months ahead. I wonder if this is true? I can't figure out the exact date 6 months before....! Any advice on how to get in a reasonable time to Siem Rep from Vientiane without flying? Or am I going to lose days on the road?

Might be that the specific date you gave them in Dec. might have gotten chartered but I can't imagine that all flights within a 6 month range are already booked out despite Dec. and Jan. being the busiest months to travel in Laos. I'd check around a little bit more with Lao travel agencies eventhough they'll still have to resort to the Lao Airline agents. Christmas week until New Year's gets booked out early but I think you'll be OK if you keep checking with Lao travel agencies regularly at least a week or two in advance outside of that holiday week.

I found myself in Siem Reap recently, wondering what the best way to get to Vientiane was without flying. The short answer: there isn't a fast way. Some options for you: Overnight it from Vientiane --> Bangkok, and then spend an entire day busing Bangkok->Siem Reap. Alternatively, Overnight it to Pakse or 4000 islands, and then figure it out from there (although I'm pretty sure this'll take longer). You could probably find a way to shave off some time by bypassing Bangkok, but since all roads lead to Bangkok it's the easiest route I found...

I don't think Lao Airlines have offices outside of Asia, you most likely were talking to the french travel agency (ECCR) who have set up a look-alike website site (see your earlier post regarding this). I just had a look at the "official" Lao Airlines site and they do not list an international schedule past Oct 2007, so it seems unlikely that seats would be available that far out, much less sold out. The current international schedule posted there shows three flights a week on that route (Wed, Fri, Sunday), with an additional day added in August (Tues).

maybe try calling or emailing one of their offices? they have a few branches in Thailand, all the contact info is on the site: Lao Airlines
