...Lao National Day? I just earlier booked my ride to Chiang Khong to enter Laos for Decwmber 2nd, as I booked the Gibbon Experience for December 3rd. Preparing for my Laos trip I just read in the LP that this happens to be Laos' independence day. Will I encounter any problems because of this at the border? Also, I assume I will be charged a bit more at the border, as it is a public holiday?

Does anybody know?

Thanks in advance!

The border is open every day 8am-6pm including weekends and holidays. You'll probably be asked to pay an extra 40 baht. Cost-wise the more important thing is to pay for your visa in US dollars, as paying in THB you get charged approximately 35% more.

Yep, seems every time you go through any Laos land border, irrespective what day or time, you have to pay them that little bit extra for their overtime.
