Hi,
anybody any info on the busses leaving from Boten to Luang prabang or Udomxai?
At latest what time do I have to have crossed the border to be able to catch a bus to one of the two places?
As staying overnight in Boten isn't one of my dreams.....

There was a pick-up laeving for Udomxai around 15.00hrs when I crossed the border last time. Doubt there will be anything later. Go to LNT then instead as described above.

I wouldn't mind overnighting on either the Chinese side (which I've done several times) or the Lao side (once). If you're coming from Jinghong you will definitely be able to make it across the border on the same day if you're starting out early. Don't forget there's an hour's difference between China and Laos if you arrive in the afternoon! Buses and pickups used to start running to Udom Xai around 10am when there were enough customers.
