Hi there,

Does anyone know what time the border crossing is open between Mukdahan and Savannakhet?
Can we walk across - or is there some kind of transport?

Thanks

Only God can walk on water so I suppose you'll have to take the cross river ferry across the Mekong or swim. The ferries start running around 8 or 9 in the morning and go whenever they get a full load, just about the time the immigration offices open. They are building a bridge there but don't think it is open to public crossing yet.

there is now a BRIDGE open since 1/1/2007 (opened in celebration by Thai royal prince + Lao president early dec 06)and the ferry has been suspended. you can NOT just walk over the bridge, there is an (about hourly??) bus Muk-Sav-khet. thaivisa.com had some story about it a few weeks/month ago, I seem to recall border is open at least 8.00-18.00, there MAY be longer hours against the usual 'overtime' fee, but its palin simple; if the bus goes, border will open, if not, not! reputedly there is even a direct overnight 999=superdeluxe international bus (maybe not daily) BKK/mochit-Sav-khet, just like there is 1 from BKK to pakse.
