Hello there!

My question is a practical issue.

I will be crossing the border into Laos coming from China by bus from Jinghong.

Is it possible to pay the visa fee in the Chinese currency or will they want dollars/euros?

How much is a visa for a Dutch passport?

I'm guessing it is possible to exchange money on the border?

Thanks!

^Wrong info. Laos visa on arrival is available at the border. Payable in RMB or $.

Hi,

Not the first strange post from No1. Yes Cap'n is correct here.

Thanks for the info!

I could, indeed, have gone to the Lao embassy in my country, but I knew the visa is available at the border. And the easy solution counts... :-)

Should be US$35. Not sure about chinese currency probably but at a bad exchange rate. Take a passport photo with you. Exchanging money at border is usually a poor rate and watch out for scams, I would use US$s if you have any until you get to a town with a bank. Or use an ATM if you have a debit card.

Of course The Captain has it right!
#1 is just a tout for a visa service company that has posted 30 visa related posts, many that make no sense, or are simply wrong. He signed up today and is probably trying to establish credibility to avoid getting booted again. Feel free to report him.

Hi,

So marilynkate is a guy? Not doubting you CMB but seems wrong.

Maybe not, just guessing. This is the third, or maybe forth day this week, different IDs but always about 30 posts in just an hour or so, and either touting evietnamvisa.com or just dumb answers to old visa questions.
Well, the dumb answer that was at # 1 is now gone and The Captain is now #1 and of course has good advice.

been a few years since i crossed there, but as i recall you could change money with
the ladies at the border. rate wasn't that bad. you can also change at many of the
hotels (not at the bank) in mohan.
.
bus will probably stop at the first town/village in laos. a few km in, this was more like
a tiny free-trade zone near the new casino. rmb was accepted in the shops. heard
the casino closed? maybe out of date then.
.
take more than exact fare for the visa. immigration guys like to supplement their
income with extra charges.....$1 weekend fee, $1 overtime fee, $1 health form fee,
$1 western passport fee, $1 gimmeesecondithinkofsomething fee.....
