Hi there,

I am planning to visit Laos At the end of july / beginning of August. I will be entering from Cambodia and departing into Thailand. Please could you advise of any useful tips? Also is it possible for me to obtain a visa on arrival. I Am probably only going to be in Laos for 7/10 days. Please could you advise of any must see places. I am very interested in culture, adventure, snorkelling. Thanks in advance

Can we assume you're a Brit from your profile? If so, then when you enter Thailand overland you'll get a 30 day VISA EXEMPTION. Its not a visa but if you intend staying longer then you'll need a visa.
Visa on Arrival for Laos? Yes.
Must sees? You have plenty of time to do some self-research.

As you'll enter at the very southern end of Laos, it would make sense to stay around the southern half for your week-10 days rather than flying off to the central and northern areas.
You could spend 3 days in the 4000 island area, a day in Champasak seeing Wat Phou, a night in Pakse, then spend 3 days or more going round the Boloven Plateau loop before departing into Thailand via Pakse-Ubon Ratchathani.
Or you could shave a day or two off the islands or Boloven plateau then head further north, pass through Thakek, spend a day and night at the Kong Lor cave and depart via Savannakhet-Mukdahan.
Get yourself a good map (Nelles or GT Rider) and a few books on Laos.
