Bag Snatch - Luang Prabang

I got banned, TicoTim is just a historic LP name now, yes 25,000 post and a few PC bullies from the CA and YC branches ambushed me like a Hmong bandit on a bicycle with a bar gilr on the handlebars...

Yeah okay epidemic might be a bit strong. Just using it relatively, as the Area is very safe with very little crime this does seem to be the onyl crime I hear about on a regular basis in Thailand, Laos and have read about in Vietnam. I have been warned many times in Thailand by the person renting you a bike about bag snatching and have second hand accounts of it happening in Vientiane. There are also specific references to it in certain towns in the Lonely Planet. This was the first time I had heard it happen in Luang Prabang and so I was describing it more as a crime that is spreading across the Southeast region.

I just wanted to warn people that it really does happen and adding a place that might not be previously known for it. Obviously take care everywhere, even when the place feels very safe.

If I said why I was banned, I would get banned.

In the town I live in (Olympia, USA) there was a bar fight, 3 robberies (with real weapons), 2 hit-and-runs, and some vandals breaking beer bottles the other day. I don't quite know what to expect next... maybe someone might try to pick my pocket.

It happens everyday. When I was living in Vientiane, this was a regular 'crime' but the thing is, you're basically asking for it if you keep your bag in the basket.

I heard a tourist got their bag snatched here in Vancouver last week. For some reason it didn't make the news however, and I haven't seen anything posted on the Canadian branch about it either...
