I will be arriving in Luang Prabang on Feb 1 and staying 5 nights, I have two more weeks to hang in Laos an thinking of not making reservations and playing it by ear. Would that be a mistake? Any recommendations for a single male thats very athletic and whats adventure?
Thanks

in LP, Vang Vieng, and Vientiane there doesn't seem to be much of a need to make reservations. locals are helpful but not desperate to sell you their services. lots of coffee shops to drop in on while you figure out your plans. head for a Green Discovery office for maps (in the major cities) and to get ideas of what's available as far as action.

I just winged it in Laos and had no difficulty finding accomodation. Luang Prabang was a bit tight, otherwise plain sailing.

I don't think you will need help with guest houses and coffee shops. I could think of a lot of things to do, most of which would occur a long way away from a road or town. Look at the maps and info on ecotourism Laos. but in general look for places with no other foreigners. Go for a long walk. Get a personal treking guide so you can move fast without hinderance from other tourists, guides are very cheap.
