Depends on where you've been. You mention being tired of cities and wats. Well, LP is both, though surely not a city on the level of BKK. OTOH, after 3 weeks in far Northern Laos, I found LP to be way too big and wanted to dash back to the relative quiet of the far N. You can easily see the sights in two days and my advice would be to try to avoid the night market and other commercialized aspects. Having been there a dozen years ago and a couple of months ago, I was dis-heartened at how commercial the city has become; some call it progress. I don't. But through the changes, LP has still hung onto a lot of charm. See it by working the outskirts.
