We're are currently in Vientiane, and are planning on heading down to Angkor Wat. We have talked to travel agents, and some have said that there is a bus from Pakse to Siem Reap, and some have said that you have to go to Phnom Penh first. Has anybody taken the route that knows the most direct route from Vientiane to Siem Reap (without flying)??

Just to let all fellow vegetarians know :
(so you do not discover this great place on your last day, just as I did...)

The Singing tree cafe has a great range of vegetarian dishes ( with fish & prawns also) & some vegan ones as well. The setting is amazing: a traditionnal house in a beautiful garden, where they also organize Yoga & Meditation classes.

It's not easy to find, as it's quite new and not many tuk tuk or moto drivers know it, but basically, across the bridge from the old market…

Anyone have an idea on when the NEW LP book for Cambodia is out?
I heard September but haven't found out for sure.

How easy is it to organize treks into areas with good wildlife viewing in Ratanakiri and Mondulkiri, and how much mine clearing has been done in these parts?

I am planning to go to Cambodia/ Vietnam and Bangkok in mid August.
Is it possible to travel or the moonsoon is too bad and it is not possible to walk around and visit the places?

i'm in phnom penh right now and will be heading to siem reap tomorrow.

my hotel gave me a deal for the following and i wanted to know if i was getting a good one.

Taxi from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap - $60 (one way)
Taxi around Angkor Wat for one day - $20 (all day service)
Hotel which is 7 km away from Angkor Wat - 2 nights - $25
Taxi to the airport in Siem Reap - free

Should I take this deal? It sounds pretty good to me but didn't know the prices in SR. It sounds like taxis all cost $20-30 and guides…

I was wondering if it is possible to rent bikes inside the Angkor Wat complex. We want to be at Angkor Wat at dawn to see the sunrise, but we think we won't be on time when we go by bike from Siem Reap. But we want to do the Big Tour by bike.

If it isn't possible, how late should we leave from Siem Reap to Angkor Wat if we want to be on time for sunrise, we are going mid-July
