Hi,
I'll be visiting Cambodia in mid-November, should I expect any problems on this route (weather)? I read that it is a very scenic trip, and we think that is a good alternative option to go from Phnom Penh to Sieam Reap via Battambang instead of taking more touristy boat through Tonle Sap. Also read that it is advised to take smaller boats to make this route. What is meant by smaller? How many persons does it take?
What is the price of such trip? Is it possible to make it in one day beginning…

How do you go about finding an apartment in Phnom Penh? I will be planning to stay here for several months. I've gotten a couple of recommendations but they are all in the 300 USD range with full amenities. All I am looking for is something basic and clean (i.e. a fan is enough). Someone I met said they were paying 50 USD/mo and his place seemed very decent. But I didn't keep in contact so I can't rely on him for help.

The papers are a good start - where do you get the English newspaper…

I will be visiting an orphanage in Cambodia in December and would like to bring gifts of stationery and small toys which I have been collecting throughout the year. The value of these items would probably be around AUS$500. Does anyone know whether I am likely to have problems with this at Phnom Penh airport eg be charged import duty? Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi travellers,

Danish officials have marked the whole Cambodia as a malaria area. Is it really that bad?

We'll be staying there for max 12-14 days - PP, Siem Reap and Sihanoukville, as well as roads in between those towns.

Since good malaria pills are terribly expensive, I need to ask your experience, if it's really needed to take precausions, and in what areas specifically?

Thank you.

Agne

An odd question to pose, but was anyone listening to the BBC World Service on Friday 5th October? If so, did you happen to hear a report by Guy De Launey, the Cambodia correspondent?

They covered a story about the amount children are paying in "informal school fees" to access their basic education (fyi - $108 a year, per child).

I was involved in setting up the interview, but was then in Thailand for the launch and couldn't pick up the world service in the back of beyond where I was staying....

Hi,

We have around 50-60 USD for a hotel in Sihanoukville in December.

The two 5 hotels seem to cost above 85USD, and we don't need the 5.

Is there anything in Sihanoukville for our price level? I don't succeed in finding anything . I can find different options for 2 and 3 for the price of app. 30USD, but if we want to upgrade the standard a bit, which hotel would you recommend.

Thank you in advance.

Best regards,
Agne

Hi all,

I'm interested at trying my hand at some Cambodian cookery while in Siem Reap - can anyone recommend a good place to have a go? Should I set aside a whole day for this, or would a half-day after some temple exploring suffice, do you think?

Many thanks!

Hi all,

I'm heading over to Cambodia next week for a 2-week trip, and was hoping someone in the know could give me an idea of what weather conditions can generally be expected this time of year. I know it's towards the end of the rainy season - does it usually just rain for a while in the afternoons/evenings, or is there a likelihood of days where the rain is more persistant? Also, it seems from online weather forecasts that Phnom Penh is more prone to rain than Siem Reap - is that usually the…

I may be meeting a friend in Siam Reap/ Ankor Wat in late November. He is coming from the states I am coming from Chiang Mai. I am thinking of coming early and spending a few days in Phnom Phen. Can anyone tell me the best options of traveling from Phnom Phen to Siam Reap. Bus, Train, and how long the trip would take.
Also anyone know any reasonable guest houses in Phnom Phen. Lastly do I need to get a visa before I arrive or do you get on on arrival.
Thanks for your help
