I'm planning to visit Angkor Wat in a few weeks, and only have a few days free. I will be in Hong Kong and want to travel directly to Siem Reap, but the flights are quite expensive. A reasonable alternative seems to fly to Bangkok, and go overland to Siem Reap. I only have 4 days available in total. Does this sound reasonable for a couple days in Angkor Wat? Are there other alternatives I should consider?

Thanks to all for the great answers to my last post about travelling with cash. One more question, that I hope isn't too clueless. Do ATMs in SEA offer you the choice of taking money out of your savings or chequing account the way they do here in Canada? Or should I make sure there's enough money in one or the other before I leave home?
Thanks again to one and all.
Later this month they're having that boat race festival, am I right? Is that Nov. 22nd-25th?
How hectic is it?
Do room rates shoot up?
Is it really all that? Or is it better in Thailand?
I may be cutting short a trip to Nepal or Burma to come back ... should I avoid it like Songkran in Thailand?
I keep reading that the US dollar is the unofficial currency of Cambodia and everybody takes it everywhere. So do people travel with lots of US dollars stuffed in their money belts or wherever? How safe or smart is this? I think I'd worry about my money getting stolen all the time. What do most people do?
Thanks.

I am sure that I will get flamed here (it seems to be the major sport for quite a few people, totally surprised that it doesn't make it onto ESPN Star Sports....everything else does), but here goes.
We had a lovely day in a Tuktuk in Phnom Penh. None of the usual bullshit that comes with Tuktuks in our experience (nearly 2 years on the road) and a lovely guy too. He has SET rates (if you quote them to him), he has a clean tuktuk, he is well presented and he speaks good English. We know (from…
Now in BKK and planning a trip to Cambodia (Siem Reap - Phnom Penh). Wondering if it is possible to get a 60-day Thai visa at the Thai Consulate in Phnom Penh. Travel agents in this city say only a 30-day visa is issued by the Thai consulate in Cambodia (and that we must go to Vientiane for a 60-day one). Can anyone give us some info, por favor? Many thanx, Coho
