Hi All,

What's the official Khmer New Year dates? I'm finding conflicting info on different sites.

When planning my trip last month, I saw April 13-15 so I specifically picked to arrive on April 15. Now my Siem Reap hotel just emailed me saying that since I'm staying during the New Year (April 14-16), no tours/drivers/etc will be available during this time.

has anyone experienced Cambodia during the New Year? Do restaurants/sites really shut down?

Thanks!

I had a wonderful spiritual trip to Cambodia, mainly in Ankgor Wat. The fantastic views of the temples as well as those warm-hearted Cambodians have made me fall in love with this wonderful country.

Hi,
Where in Cambodia is according to you the best Peace and Love and Rest place. I need inspiration to write a book. Internet is welcome but not at all a full range of tourist. Nice inspiring budget with view (lake, sea, mountain) accommodation is welcome.

Thanks,
Anthony

Hey, I'm in Cambodia at the moment and would like to spend the last few days here to visit the East of Cambodia.

I was thinking of renting a motorbike from Phnom Penh (or Kompong Cham or Kratie) and do a half loop to visit Kompong Cham, Kratie and the mekong river, Ratanakiri and Stung Treng.

Does anyone know if it is possible to rent a motor bike from any of the above places and drop off the motorbike in Stung Treng? Or have done this sort of thing and may offer a good itenary. I would like…

I am looking to get from Phnom Penh to Saigon by boat but don't want to take a 7-day luxury cruise. The only info I could find online was with Sinhbalo Tours, who run a 3-day trip with stops in Chau Doc and Can Tho. Has anyone taken this trip? Or can anyone recommend an alternatuve. Thanks.

Visiting Angkor

I have an old copy of LP that suggests to do a build-up tour if the temples, from the simplest to the best, but does not tell you exactly how.

I did a bit of research myself and ended up deciding upon a variation of Glaize's 3-day itinerary listed on his now free Angkor guide. His itinerary is based on half-days, and so was mine.

The reason I share it here is because my google query for something like that yielded nothing decent.

Planned itinerary (based on Blaize's)

I recently had diner at the restaurant The Villa in Battambang, which is recommended in the guide of Lonely Planet. At The Villa I ate the best Amock (THE national dish in Cambodia, kind of curry) of my three week trip in Cambodia. More over, the place is beautifull, a romantic tropical garden of a nice colonial house. The service is perfect. Although a little more expensively than the average, The Villa is a experience that is worth doing.

I take advantage of this posting for also recommending…
