Hi,

My boyfriend and I are in Siem Reap right now. We landed in Bangkok and its our first stop in Cambodia.
We stay here untill saterday and have 2 weeks left.
We were wondering if we should head to Kratie or straight to phnom Penh. Is Kratie worth going?
And how long would it take to get there from Siem Reap? Any experiences?
Would you recommand another traject?
We would also like to visit Phnom Pehn, Takeo, Kampot, Sihanoukville and Battambang.
All the tips and recommandations are welcome!

Thanks in advance!!
Curious about your response!

greets, Thelma

I do recommend Kratie but remember it is at least 6 hours each way from Phnom Penh. I was there a month ago and high water levels on the Mekong river and flooding of some roads meant that travel outside the town into the countryside was limited. I doubt the water levels have gone down much, if at all.

Given the other places you mention and the two week time frame, I suggest you go Siem Reap - Battambang - Phnom Penh - Sihnanoukville - Kampot - Phnom Penh. It also depends on you departure point from Cambodia.

#2 but how do you know what OP is interested in?

I could recommend a completely different itinerary

Its a valid point that you make BigAl, but I also think that for many people coming to South East Asia for the first time, they don't have specific interests and simply want to see "a little bit of everything".

Dale, yes but the route you have chosen is mainly the big cities and there is so much more to consider in Cambodia

Why is Takeo on your list? I have a lot of fondness for Takeo. In fact I've just got home from a lovely meal of freshwater prawns at a local Takeo restaurant. But I like it because I've worked here and it certainly wouldn't be one of my priorities on a trip through Cambodia,

#Uomo
See the notification I received on my email from LP and note the translation of Bongkong to "Freshwater prawns" very clever!

I figured 'bongkong' wouldn't mean much to most people so I edited it. Often translated as 'lobster' on menus. Just coming into the height of the season and one of Takeo's best products ;-)
