Thats great to know, it sounds like there is a whole heap of stuff still out there in that area. No Kouprey yet then? I trekked up Phnom Samkos in 2011 and trailed elephants as they slipped along the wet trail, I think that area also has great potential, again, provided they don't log it all first. I do a bit of camera trapping here in northern Thailand but mostly we catch hunters with their dogs, sadly much of the interesting macrofauna have disappeared from these parts.

Whereabouts in Northern Thailand are you doing camera trapping and have you found anything unexpected?

We are camera trapping in the Doi Lohn mountains not too far from Mae Kampong, over the years there has been some interesting stuff but it seems to be getting thinner on the ground. Last Pangolin was seen in 2008, sunbear in 2012. Lots of of pigs, deer and Aisan spotted/leopard cats.......and people (villagers using the forest).

I really hope you can go in with our guys to check the cameras one of these times (maybe in April?) because when I did a complete check of our 11 existing cams 1 had no memory card in in it and 2 were turned "off." I didn't have the heart to scold them, but I I was really let down by that. It would be great if someone could help make sure things are done right. PM me if you are interested.

Its funny you should mention that, I've had the same problems too, I sent the guides out to put the camera traps in place and went back months later to find they'd not turned them on! very frustrating and lots of potential data not collected. I am very interested, but a bit busy until later in the year, I'll be in touch via PM.

m2, the link to your historic video footage should be pointed out

No foreigner has stood on that mountain looking north into Laos since probably before the French left Cambodia in 1954. Incredible. Best of luck with your projects.

Thanks, sfogm9. And by the way, I wrote an opinion piece in the Cambodia Daily last week about VNP:

Whoa there m2. You have now published a book about your treks into Virachey NP?!

Yes, and you can read a review of the book here.

I ordered a copy from Amazon tonight. You could sell this stuff to National Geographic Magazine. Seriously. No one has been up there in a generation or three. M2, you rock. I can't wait to read your reports from the Lao side of Virachey NP. Maybe in another year or two, eh? Cheers,
