Is there an easy way to go from Sihanoukville to HCMC without going back to Phnom Penh?

Thanks, we are there end of next week and are finalizing plans now.

Sure, you could cross at Ha Tien on the coast, then take a bus/buses on to Saigon. Or, just get an early bus to PP and make a connection on to Saigon. No need to stay in PP if you don't want to, but all the buses connect there. See http://www.canbypublications.com for bus schedules and prices. I like Mekong Express, cost a couple of $ more but they have nice buses with a toilet on board.

From http://www.canbypublications.com/sihanoukville-cambodia/sihanoukville-travel.htm
"Vietnam to/from Sihanoukville

To travel from Sihanoukville to Vietnam, first travel to Kampot. See details above. The road is good and the trip takes about 2 hours from by taxi. Then travel from Kampot to the Ha Tien crossing, by motodup or tuk-tuk. Most of the road is in good condition, requiring 1 - 2 hours to make the trip. See the overland international border crossing page and the Kampot page for more details on the Ha Tien border crossing and travel between Kampot and Sihanoukville."

Just noticed you've been given identical informatiion by CMBurns so it must be correct ;-)

Smithers did the research, and if he and uomo found the same information, then Mr. Burns is sure it's correct!

There are many buses departing from Silhanoukville in the morning towards the border Prek Chak/ Ha Tien then onto Ho Chi Minh City. You can easily book ticket at short notice with the help of the hotel/ hostel. Depending on the bus operator, you might need to change bus at Kampot, Ha Tien and Chau Doc. In rainy days the journey from Kampot to Ho Chi Minh (including waiting time for connecting bus) can take up to 15 hours! Be prepared for hitting town late. and it's worth it to check out the route before getting the ticket.
