Has anybody been there recently? What is the situation re conflict between Cambodia and Thailand? The British Foreign Office advises against travel to this area - should I heed their advice? If you think it's ok to go is it possible to combine with other temples in a 2 day trip from Siem Riep or is it better to go from Kompong Thom? Thanks for any recent info.

I've not been recently but the road up there from SR is good now and can be done in a day trip. I would say to go there from SR is easier than from Kompong Thom. you might wish to take in somewhere like Bang Mealea on the way.

I liked Kompong Thom quite a bit, especially as so many people skipped it so the sites were a lot more peaceful. I'm glad you're considering going there :-). I did Siem Reap - Prasat Preah Vihear - Kompong Thom, but I suppose you could do the opposite, too. I can't remember if PPV-KT I had to stop in Siem Reap or not, but if I did, it wasn't a big deal. But it is easier to get to PPV from Siem Reap than KT. Have fun!
