Hey all, I'm going on honeymoon in August to Thailand and Indonesia, and trying to squeeze in a one day trip to Angkor Wat. We arrive in Bangkok on the 3rd, and have a flight out of Siem Reap to Chang Mai on the 6th. I'd rather avoid flying to Siem Reap on the 4th. I wanted to know if we stayed the night at the border on the Thai said (arranyaprathet) and then got to the border when it opened on the 5th, if it was possible to see Angkor wat the same day? 8 years ago i did this journey, but the road was not paved and it took us about 4 or 5 hours to get to siem reap. I hear now it's only 1-2 hours. What time does angkor close? I know it's cutting it so close, but we are dying to do it so we will do anything so it can be done! So, anyone know if this is feasable? Cross the border and see Angkor on the same day? Thanks!
I did that road several years ago too and it was a nightmare, however now it takes about 2 hours (get in a share taxi from the border, or rent your own about $45 (or $12p/p sharing). If you get over the border first thing in the morning you will be in SR at latest by 10am, then spend the day looking around the temples. you should have plenty of time for a quick look around.
Possible, yes. A good idea, not really. If you're there when the border opens, and go straight to Angkor, you'll be there before lunch, but you can't see much in just half a day.
Possible but very rushed.
Do not know what time you arrive in bangkok on 3rd but there is a bus from the airport direct to aranyaphatet if you wanted (do not know times)
I do not know what you might have planed on the morning of the 4th but is there a reason for not heading all the way to siem Reap and thus being able to enjoy a full day there?
Its your honneymoon hang the expense and fly there and get the most from your time
If you're on a tight timetable as you clearly are I don't see the point of spending half a day getting to the border overland, overnighting in Aran where there's nothing to see or do, spending maybe a few more hours crossing and getting down to SR, only to spend a fraction of the time at your point of interest. Fly or don't bother.
