Even if this didn't happen in Cambodia , I don't think its a job for the Tourist Police either. They have more important things to do. Same as going to your Embassy.

Please explain: I thought that the job of the police was to investigate and solve crimes...

Someone else suggested the embassy, and actually I struggle to understand that suggestion.

Try offering the police a $30 reward if they get the iphone back. It might work.

That would not even cover the cost of a report for insurance these days... Isn't inflation terrible!

the tracking function also has a lock feature.

Step 1

Enable the "Find My iPhone" application on your phone while it is still in your possession. You cannot enable the application once the phone is lost or stolen. Go to the "Settings" application on your phone and choose "iCloud" from the menu. Toggle the icon next to "Find My iPhone" to the "On" position by tapping it once.

Step 2

Go to a computer as soon as possible after you realize your iPhone has been stolen. Point the Web browser to iCloud.com and log in using your Apple ID and password. Click on the "Find My iPhone" icon to initiate a search for your phone. Once your phone appears on the map, click on the "i" icon next to it. Click "Remote Lock" to stop anyone from using your phone.

OR.....take your new, cheap replacement phone, go visit the alleged thief.
call your number.....

The police wouldn't do anything unless you gave them monetary incentive. I was recently threatened with a knife by an ex pat in Cambodia for accidentally knocking over his drink, the bar owner, another ex pat and friend of the attacker grabbed me by the throat and egged him to stab me, the police came over to find out what all the noise was and did calm the situation. I could get out of there but when I asked the police by way of an English speaker, they said that the attacker was a local businessman. I guess he did this sort of thing regularly?
