Getting to Sihanoukville from the PP airport was an issue raised recently with no definite answer on how to do it. I did it and so here is my experience.

At the end of the runway in the direction of Sihanoukville, there is a big roundabout. On the left is a bus depot, but on the right of this roundabout is a little shop with a table outside and a guy selling bus tickets to Sihanoukville. He has about 5 different companies on that table of public transport tickets just to Sihanoukville. He sold me a $12 ticket for GST bus and in about 30 minutes it rolls up. The bus stops again further on, again outside shops selling tickets. The last sto4p before getting going is at a large bakery, where he stops for about 10 minutes to stock up on snacks.

These buses are the ones originating from downtown and after about 1 pm thats it although there still might be the chance of getting on a mini bus van.

I arrived from Kuala Lumpur on the early Air Asia flight and its about 35 minutes to get through the airport. The taxi drivers insisted i had to go downtown for the bus and I insisted i didn't! Finally they gave in and I got a tuk tuk to the bus ticket table for $5.

There of course may be a train station nearby, but I don't know and thats a whole new experience.

There is a railway station in PP but what's a railway station if there are no trains.

Trains are about to start from PP to Sihanoukville some time soon, but will take twice as long as a bus trip so I read somewhere, on Travel Fish I think it was.

They have been "about to start" before. Until it actually happens, I wouldn't depend on trains.

The info on the ticker sales had been posted before including a hint that the municipal bus leaves opposite the airport exit and will take you to the round about for 1500 riel. It is nice that you posted your experience as few do so and do not add to the available info here.

it seems that the people took advantage of you charging twice the regular fare or more. Regular tickets are 5.50-6 USD to SHV. This is the price PP dowtown. Perhaps this will help others

There are some later buses who reach the roundabout around 2-2.30 PM depending on the company.

I regularly used a different company and my experience is based on them. I do not mention the company by name as it is under boycott for what I consider unethical and most likely criminal behavior against their staff.

On the subject of the train I have yet to see the timetable but I can not for one minute believe that there will be a frequent service - perhaps one or two trains a day

Still we will see
