Just for a reality check for the people who spout that cambodia is safe - in the last 4 years I have disarmed a guy with a machete, been swung at with a samurai sword at Kien svay while riding my motorbike through the centre of a brawl between about 15 youth gang members that killed 5 of their own during the brawl, had a brick sail past my head at night on my moto from people trying to rob me in a province, had a gun pulled on me by gang at Thaisan hotel, had 2 friends cut up with knives at boeng trabek, a khmer friend had his neck broken when riding his moto after dark through a roap strung up between 2 trees and had a neighbour in Phnom penh who had been mugged 4 times in 2 years (he was pretty stupid and old though)

And I take safe routes where possible.

OP, Have you tried hostelworld? here I find it is very efficient and both GHs I booked in Cambodia (only 2 days before I went) had full details of my booking. One evn met me at the airport, which I wasn't expecting. The booking fee seems high relative to the ridiculously low cost of the accommodation but you can get annual membership which gives you free bookings.

TA, is your second name 'Dangerseeker'?
I've not met one foreign resident of Cambodia who has experienced the kind of adventures you seem to attract. With tourists it might be slightly different, bad things can happen, but they generally don't.

Havent been in Sihanoukville in over a year, but what would you expect, its always had plenty of loonatics. Still on an infintessibly small scale when compared with Pattaya.

Yeh, I agree. But what I am saying is that tourists and expats get on here saying how safe Cambodia is and they have not got a clue and are giving false info. Don't listen to your average expat because they don't get out and about and just hang out together in safer tourist places in groups and don not integrate with the Khmer lifestyle or people - only the english speaking, tourist dollar Khmers.

Get out into the nitty gritty and its common knowledge not to go out after dark and there are places the Khmer will not even go in daylight.

Cambodia is as safe or unsafe as any place in SEA, with Singapore just maybe being an exception :)

I wouldn't be too sure about that. Most I know do get out and about, much more so than most tourists (and average Khmers), who usually do not leave the beaten path and can fall victim to the typical crimes short- time visitors most encounter, e.g. pick- pocketing in crowded places, the odd burglary in the GH, snatch and grabs from motorcycles. Sure, once in a while there's violent crime directed at foreigners, it's unavoidable. I think you're wrong if you think the country is therefore generally unsafe.

Nobody has ever told me not to go out after dark in the 18 months I've been working here. You must be in some kind of time warp. Things have changed here since the early 90s. And I wouldn't mind knowing those places Khmers don't even go to in daylight, care to name them? So that I can avoid them too, of course ;)
What’s with your website?

Get out to a lot of outer provinces and go out after dark on your moto and you won't last long. I'm in no time warp - its just plain fact.

Ok - a couple of streets for starters. Boeung trabek, the vietnamese ruled streets just off monivong near the caltex, try and take a khmer into those streets at any time and go after dark and your own throats a good chance of being cut also.

Websites a little slow being built while I consider legal aspects of the site.

I do. I've lasted, including late night outings.
